MPS TRANSPORTATION UPDATE - JAN. 22 - 2:15PM
We apologize for any inconveniences during the pick ups this morning. Despite using engine block heaters and anti-gel fluid, with a lack of indoor storage, we had difficulty starting a couple of our buses and getting them to run properly. With warming temperatures and great effort from several of our drivers (Jeff, Rick, and Kevin) we have borrowed a bus from Superior Central and have the others running well. The following 5 buses and drivers are ready to roll for the afternoon bus run:
Jeff Meyer - Bear (Superior Central #3)
Rick Stephens - Frog (#3)
Kevin Westcomb - Deer (#8)
Dawn Kleinhenz - Dinosaur (#2)
Bill LeVeque - Camel (#9a)

MPS BUS UPDATE WEDS. 1/22 8:00am - The Frog Bus (7) is experiencing engine trouble due to diesel fuel gelling issues. This bus is running very late and if you are on this route and have alternate means of getting to school, it is recommended. The Transportation Department will return to complete pick ups this morning as needed when operational buses return.

MPS TRANSPORTATION UPDATE WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 22ND - Bus 8 (Deer) which is the Shingleton area route, will not start. Therefore the sub bus will be running 1 hour and 15 minutes late with a first pick up in the area at approximately 8:15am and will arrive to school about 9:30am. Those that can are encouraged to arrange alternate transportation this morning.

MUNISING PUBLIC SCHOOLS SALUTES OUR SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS FOR THEIR SERVICE IN OBSERVANCE OF SCHOOL BOARD APPRECIATION MONTH!
Thank you to Jason Brisson, Lara Bender, John Carr, Greg Pond, Megan Hill, Cassie Tebear, and Hannah Nolta-Maki!
The key to a brighter future for Michigan’s children is a strong public education system. Every day, students count on public schools to help prepare them for a successful future. Whether they understand it or not, they count on adults across the state ensuring they have access to resources to help them learn, keep their buildings safe and have qualified teachers to guide them. It takes a pure, unwavering commitment to a community to make this all possible.
Yet, at the end of the day, the true superheroes contributing to the success of our students are just ordinary citizens with extraordinary dedication to public schools—our school board members. These individuals approach their volunteer work like it is a full-time job and, for some, they value their work on the board as more important than their chosen profession.
Their job is to establish a vision for the education program, design a structure to achieve that vision, ensure schools are accountable to the community and strongly advocate for continuous improvement in student learning. The job of a school board member is tough, the hours long and the thanks few and far between. Too often we’re quick to criticize school board members without really understanding the complex nature of their decisions. We have to remember to take time to thank them for their untiring efforts.
The month of January marks the observance of School Board Recognition Month. This is an opportunity to show our year-round appreciation for these servant leaders and begin to better understand how local trustees work together to prepare today’s students to be tomorrow’s leaders. We encourage you to join with others throughout our community, state and nation to salute the individuals who provide grassroots governance of public schools.

Mather Elementary Students Show Heart Through Holiday Hustle Service Project!
Mather Elementary students truly exemplified kindness and community spirit during their recent Holiday Hustle service-learning project. Together, they raised an incredible $2,451.34 to support individuals and families affected by cancer in Alger County through The Eric R. Beverly Family Foundation CHAMP Fund.
A special congratulations goes to Mrs. Mattson’s 5th-grade class, who earned the title of Champions of the week-long school-wide initiative. Their hard work and dedication paid off, finishing with an impressive -$46.92 balance. That achievement took an extraordinary effort—and a whole lot of pennies!
This inspiring accomplishment wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our incredible parents, community members, students, and staff. Your generosity and teamwork made a meaningful impact, demonstrating the power of coming together for a worthy cause.
As a well-deserved reward, Mrs. Mattson’s class was treated to a hot chocolate party, and this Friday, The Eric R. Beverly Foundation will graciously host a pizza party for the class to express their appreciation.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this initiative such a success. Mather Elementary is proud of its students for their hard work, compassion, and commitment to giving back. Way to go, STANGS!

Congratulations to Elizabeth and her parents!
