SEEKING DONATIONS:
MUNISING HIGH SCHOOL FOUNDS "MICHIGAN YOUTH IN GOVERNMENT" CHAPTER; SENDING DELEGATION OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO THE CAPITOL IN LANSING.
On February 16th, we are sending a Munising Delegation of 26 high school students and 3 teacher advisors/chaperones (Mr. Burtis, and Mr. & Mrs. Lynch) to the YMCA Michigan Youth in Government (MYIG) Conference. This program is open to all middle and high school students from across the state who are interested in the political process, current issues, and government. With an active high school program in place, Mr. Burtis and Mr. Lynch are considering starting a middle school MYIG program next year (22-23).
This program provides students the opportunity to represent the Munising Public School District at the state level. These Mustangs will travel to Lansing for a 5-day 4-night conference. At the conference, the students will work with more than 600 students from all over the state, debating and discussing the most important topics of today. Students will also have the amazing opportunity to sit on the House and Senate floors of our Capitol and debate bills and proposals that they wrote with our own unique ideas. This program is a great opportunity to experience civic engagement, and provide experiential learning for students in both the legislative and executive branches of government.
Earlier this fall, Munising High School was awarded a $9,880.00 grant that covers transportation, hotel rooms, and the majority of student/school registration fees for the conference. HOWEVER, IT DOES NOT COVER MEAL COSTS. The estimated meal costs for this trip are $2465. We are asking for community support to help give our students a great opportunity to learn and practice civic engagement. Any donations would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for your continued support of the Munising Community!
Donations may be made by check (preferred) or cash. Please make checks payable to "Munising High School" and write "MYIG Meals" in the check memo line. Checks or cash may be dropped off in the office or mailed to:
Munising Middle-High School
810 State Hwy. M-28 West

Hello Middle-High School Students & Parents:
We will be using the schedule that you see in this post.
Please note that Thursday (tomorrow) and Friday exams will remain as originally scheduled. The exam schedule slated for today will be pushed to next Tuesday, January 25th (No school on 1/24 due to teacher PD).
Next Tuesday 1/25, students will attend "SECOND SEMESTER CLASSES" for periods 1-7 and then take their 1st Semester, 1st Period Exam at the end of the day. The 35 minute class periods next Tuesday will be nice for teachers and students to review syllabi and classroom expectations together. Ms. Essinger will distribute 2nd Semester schedules to students this Friday, January 21st.
Most coursework is available on teacher Google Classroom websites or through Google Docs, but for those students with concerns about accessing study materials for exams tomorrow, the building is now open and will be open through 9:00pm tonight. Students are welcome to come in and get materials out of their lockers as needed. Additionally, please note that there are 30 minute study periods tomorrow and Friday which will give students and teachers time to prepare.
Stay warm today!
Sincerely,
Mr. Travis
