MPS Transportation Update: Tuesday, January 3rd, 2023
Sub Bus #9A will replace Bus #5 (Frog Bus) until further notice, while some repairs are made to Bus #5.

IMPORTANT: MPS SCHOOL CLOSURE INFORMATION
Parents and community members, I am canceling school and all after school activities for tomorrow (Wednesday 12/21) and Thursday 12/22 due to pervasive student and staff illness. With a significant percentage of our student body and teaching staff absent, the effectiveness of instruction and learning are now temporarily compromised and the health of our students and staff takes precedence at this point. We need to pause to give everyone the chance to get well and stay well. Neighboring districts report that they are experiencing similar illness issues with students and staff. The Drama Club Play will still be held tonight (12/20), but performances scheduled for Thursday are canceled and may be rescheduled at a later time. Athletic events and practices scheduled for 12/21 and 12/22 are also canceled and may be rescheduled at a later time. Our Custodians and Bus Drivers will be taking advantage of the closure to perform deep cleaning of touch points and surfaces in both buildings and on school buses. Please note that the vast majority of reported illnesses are either seasonal influenza A or the RSV virus. Please take care of your families, seek medical attention as needed and travel safely during this holiday season! Sincerely M. Travis, Superintendent.

MATHER ELEMENTARY PLAYGROUND PROJECT DONATION DRIVE
During this holiday season, please consider giving to help meet the needs of the children in our community. The Munising local and regional community has demonstrated commitment and generosity in helping the school district raise $96,371.34 toward this important project to replace the aged "Kids Connection" school and community playground across the street from Mather Elementary. We are inching our way toward the $150,000 community fundraising goal. Once this goal is reached, the Munising Public Schools will provide dollar for dollar matching funds in order to break ground this summer. Please review the letter below for more information about the project and for ways to donate. Donations can also be made online at:

MPS would like to thank you the students, parents, and community members for their generosity during last week's holiday service project fundraisers.
At Mather Elementary, $4,971.39 was raised during the Holiday Hustle Penny War for the Mather Playground Project. Mrs. DeFrancesco's class won the contest and presented the "check" to Principal Tweedale this morning!
At the Middle/High School, the student council facilitated a fundraiser with our first hour classes to collect money to have their teacher kidnapped with the funds given to our adopt a family. The student body raised $1,299.47 and Mr. Cotey's class was the overall winner.
Thank you to all who donated!

Congratulations Braylin!
