Mather Elementary (Preschool - 5) School
The Mather Elementary School was built in 1921. It has 2 floors, a basement level and a sub-basement level where a Gymnasium is located. In 1993, the heating plant, roof and window sashes were completely replaced. In the summer of 2003 Mather Elementary School became barrier free, with the addition of an Otis Roped Hydralic 4 stop 2,500 lb. Capacity Elevator System. The Mather Complex has 4 stairways, 7 occupied classrooms, Gymnasium, 2002 Renovated 700 + Seat Auditorium, 1 Computer Lab, Native American Education Office, Athletic Directors Office, Technology Director Office, Auxiliary Services Office, and 1 set of Bathroom facilities on both 1st and 2nd floor. All of the Mather Complex is heated with 2 - (7) section Weil McClain steam boilers which were installed in 1993, each providing 125 MBTU of steam heat to cast iron radiators in each room, regulated by Johnson Control pneumatic thermostats providing day/night settings. Large ventilation units serve the Gymnasium and Auditorium Area. Mather Elementary School has both standard and refrigerated drinking fountains. In 2001/2002 the Mather Auditorium was completely renovated and state of the are Sound and Lighting were introduced. The Playground is a community sized playground constructed of wood, and treated each summer with wood preservation.
Munising High (6-12) School
Munising High School was built in 1980. The High School has 2 floors, two stairways and 1 elevator. 19 classrooms, a Centralized Kitchen where meals for the whole district are prepared, a Cafeteria Area, Full Size Gymnasium, Weight room, Coaches Offices, 3 Computer Labs, Public Library, Teacher Workrooms, Lounge, School District Business Office, 2 Principal Offices, Guidance Counselor's Office, Conference Room, 2 shower rooms, and 2 sets of Bathroom facilities on 2nd floor and 1st floor. All of the high School is is heated with a Hot Water Scotch box style boiler system, providing heat to radiation units in each room as well as volume air boxes, regulated by Honeywell pneumatic thermostats which use outside air to adjust the room temperature. The High School has both standard and refrigerated drinking fountains.
Mustang Stadium Athletic Field
Mustang Stadium is Located near the Alger Ice Arena in the back hill of Munising. It is a updated facility (2001) with a modern concession stand, shower rooms, bathroom facilities, aluminum bleachers, scoreboard, and pressbox. To complete the upgrades, 2 new Field goal posts were installed in the Summer of 2003. Four "State of the Art" 80 foot light poles each support 12 - 1500 watt High Output Lights for superior lighting during evening games. In summer 2004 a deep well and pump were installed to irrigate the athletic field. A new sprinkler system is scheduled to be installed in the near future.
A Football/Soccer practice field is located adjacent to the Munisng High School, next to Lake Superior.
